10 Ways to Explore the “Great Indoors”

Last week, we revealed that it’s not uncommon to experience a “secret miniature summer” featuring surprisingly beautiful and balmy days of sunshine during the winter months along the Oregon Coast. When the outdoors beckon, it’s time to embark on a beach stroll, a hike through the woods or along the Oregon Dunes or one of our beautiful state parks. Perhaps you’ll want to go for a drive along the The Cape Arago Beach Loop, go winter fishing, crabbing, clamming, biking, ANYTHING to get you outside!

But as you know, winter weather on Oregon’s Adventure Coast can change at the drop of a hat. So what does one do on those days when the outdoors don’t seem quite as appealing? Here are ten ways to have a great time while staying out of the cold:

#1- Catch a Movie at The Egyptian Theatre

Spend an afternoon at the Coos History Museum and Maritime Collection and explore their over 50,000 objects and 250,000 images. See artifacts and archival material from Coos regional history and learn more about our fascinating region.

#8- Experience UO’s NEW Charleston Marine Life Center

The 6,000-square-foot Charleston Marine Life Center is the one of the newest destination on Oregon’s South Coast. The new museum features five different exhibits that include an aquarium gallery filled with aquatic life from the surrounding area, an open-air deck where visitors can look and see fishing vessels coming and going from the harbor, interactive display panels and a Marine Mammal Gallery. Admission is just $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and free for children and students of the University of Oregon.
